Culture and antiquity

Findings from the antiquity are everwhere. Yet in early times Paros was famous for its bright, white marble. The underground quarries are still accessible. Phidias, the famous antique artist chose marble from Paros for his groundbreaking sculptures. More recently the Pantheon of Paris has been completely build with parian marble.

On the small neighbour island of Despotikos the foundations of an Apollo sanctuary from the Archaic period are excavated at present.
